Lines

It's possible that you're aware that Cory is not a fan of being photographed, in general. Quite the contrary. So the other day when she put up nary a fuss at all when I brought out the camera to shoot some pix, I was stunned and delighted.

See, we were working on my lines for the show I'm doing.

Cory started out pretty straightforward, but pretty soon she was getting into it. (As usual, you can click on the pix and get a larger view)

She said she didn't mind me shooting her because she thought it would be a good exercise for me - to see if my line-knowledge could stand up to the multi tasking. I know my lines pretty well at this point (we started performing last night, after all - at the pop-up space at 2 Great Jones, 7 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays all month. You should come see us!!) so I got through the exercise just fine.

I think her acceptance of the camera may also have had something to do with the fact that she was wearing a super cute dress and was looking all summer-a-go-go. Plus, just maaaaaybe she has a teensy weensy smidge of the performer gene in there somewhere...

I am ecstatic over these shots, and I hope you enjoy them too. Here's one last view of Cory flat out smiling for the camera.

Yay!

Rehearsals, etc.

The opening of Twelfth Night fast approacheth. We had some weather-related frustrations this weekend, but also got in some good cuts. If you're in town, hope you can make it. Here's the postcard:

One thing that the postcard doesn't mention for some reason is that we also have a weekend's worth of matinees at Governor's Island: August 29-31 at 2 p.m. Another thing not noted on the card is that it's probably a good idea for you to bring a cushion or a pillow, because those concrete steps are pretty unforgiving.

Here are some shots from a rehearsal (no costumes involved) and a couple candids:

RJ having a moment.

Action shot of Annie, Raushauna and Sean

Richard being pensive.

Loren relaxing between scenes.

Justin taking care of business with David.

This is kind of 'Shakespeare for People Who Don't Like Shakespeare': plenty of broad jokes and wacky costumes. And Led Zeppelin. Lots and lots of Led Zeppelin. Hopefully, people who do like Shakespeare will enjoy it too...

rainy day and hipster haiku

Technical rehearsal last night. Stressful and time-consuming, as usual. Those of you who have ever worked on some form of comedy are familiar with that point in rehearsal when nothing seems funny anymore, even though you were laughing about it last week. Yeah, welcome to that. Plus, everyone is sick. And grouchy.

Hey, it's tech.

Oh, here's the new york times listing of the show.

And, to celebrate today's raininess, and yesterday's trip to h&m and the american eagle store in a failed attempt to pick up some basic black jeans, here's a hipster haiku:

Surfers in New York
Your spring gear reeks of Cali -
Where's the fucking beach?

Trailers

We've been rehearsing 'trailers' at somebody's apartment in astoria. Which is annoying enough, because it takes me a long time to get home afterward (not that i have any other complaints about that area where a bunch of my friends live). But something i didn't realize would annoy me so much is that almost everybody there smokes.

Now, i'm not really an anti-smoker. I used to smoke and enjoy it, and up till very recently i'd succumb to temptation from time to time. And at first i thought it was kind of retro/cool; you know, like the days when people could smoke at rehearsals (and almost everywhere). But when i came home with my clothes smelling like they used to smell when people could smoke in bars (it's still odd to me that people can't smoke in any bars at all), i grew less amused. Then when my jacket, hat and scarf still smelled like an ashtray the next morning on my way to work, i got a little pissed off. And now i've got a cold - not caused by the smoke, of course, but it may have helped it along - and i'm heading to arizona tomorrow for my mom's surprise 60th birthday party [she better not have tracked down this blog, or there goes the surprise] and whatever charm there was in that smoky place has been pretty well wiped away.

Just kvetching.
